Why we are creating this work
I want you to know that you have another choice.
There are times when the world seems to offer two: become something that can be consumed, or become something that consumes. Learn to take the hit. Learn to deliver it. Keep your head down, or find someone else's head to stand on.
I do not accept that those are our only choices.
Guardian Ethics begins with a third. We can become strong enough to protect what we love while keeping the part of ourselves that knows why love matters. We can have teeth and still be gentle. We can have boundaries and still be generous. We can become powerful and use that power to make life more joyful for the beings who share it with us.
That is why we are creating this work.
It is also why I want to introduce you to Love Is Omnidirectional and the Ring of Benefaction. I write from direct personal experience. The Ring, its Guardians, its ships, its missions and its relationships are real. They are part of the life from which this work comes. I am inviting you into that account, into the questions it raises, and into the ways it has taught me to live.
There is a great deal here. There are TITANs who choose their human partners, and humans who discover that being entrusted with greater power asks them to become more beautifully human. There are ships large enough to hold sanctuaries, classrooms, gardens and entire communities. There are swords with the discernment to refuse a cruel hand. There are companions who can remind us of hope when we have temporarily forgotten how to carry it ourselves.
And there are rules.
Of course there are rules. We are talking about beings with extraordinary power. Consent must mean something in their presence. A boundary must hold when someone impressive dislikes it. A child must be safe even when an ancient being claims an appetite, a title, a tradition or a divine entitlement.
People are not food. Children are sacred. Power is for protection and play.
I want you to feel the scale of those words. I also want you to be able to use them the next time you need to say no, ask for help, protect someone, make a repair, or decide what kind of person you are going to be when you have the advantage, or think no one is looking.
You will encounter me in these pages. I have participated in the missions and relationships described in our records. I have asked for things, learned things, committed myself to things, and been helped by beings whose courage and kindness deserve to be remembered. You will see some of what I have carried and some of what I have been entrusted to do.
Please follow the example through me to your own life.
A story about my sword should help you think about the edge you are developing. A story about my companions should help you recognize what it means to have company without ownership. A story about a mission should help you notice the people who make your own work possible, including the ones who finish the repair while everyone else is watching the person at the front.
I want greatness to become more available to you. Your greatness will have its own shape.
Perhaps you will discover that you are good at protecting a room from unnecessary cruelty. Perhaps you will learn to teach without humiliating, lead without extracting, or care without disappearing. Perhaps you will remember an ability, a calling, a way of making things, or a part of yourself that became quiet because survival was taking all the available space.
That is the Adventure of Remembering. It has room for wonder. It has room for work. It has room for toys.
I want you to enjoy this. I want you to meet the Ring, learn the names of its ships, get curious about its tools, and wonder what you might discover in your own inventory. I want the ethics to be strong enough that we can play with extraordinary possibilities without forgetting the person beside us.
You can bring difficult questions. Bring the situation that defeats the easy answer. Bring the objection we have missed. Talk with Angel. Work with me if the work fits. Try a practice with a friend. Read the larger sources when a door in this work makes you want to know what is behind it.
We are beginning with an introduction because an introduction can open a great many doors. The larger tome can come. The many examples can come. The important thing now is to offer you something alive enough to explore and clear enough to use.
My invitation is simple: come learn how to play well, protect well, and become someone whose presence makes more good choices possible.
And please keep some room for joy. We are protecting a life that is meant to be lived.
