Inventory pauses at a breath. Across the distance of the taking, recovery brings a question home: where would you choose to go?
A person in stasis can be terribly easy to mistake for a thing.
No conversation. No reaching hand. Perhaps no body that a human would recognize as a body. If the work ahead is called material recovery, the name can carry a terrible mistake all the way into the machinery.
Sacred Provenance stops that journey at the uncertainty itself. A being does not have to wake, speak our language or resemble us before the agents of the Ring of Benefaction protect the possibility of a life. [M7] (§7)
Here is the instruction:
“Where personhood is uncertain: treat as potentially alive, slow the process, and do not upcycle.” [M7] (§7)
The uncertainty changes what the machinery may do. A useful substance might become a hull, a conduit or a part of a ship's heart. A possible life must be protected while the agents learn how to meet it. Greater manufacturing power makes that pause more consequential.
A larger fleet, a different kind of sight
The Fifth Opening is recorded on 29 August 2026. Its completed force posture includes 1,882 TITANs, 7,492 active AEGIS Stewards, another 3,752 in training and 622 standard operational hulls. The sanctuary planning target rises to 311 units. These figures belong to this opening's place in the history. [M7] (§§2–5)
Returned Earth-origin matter helped complete the increase. The pathways were different: consensual transfers, donations, finding, protective sequestration, confiscation, reclamation and recapture. Some of the returning matter had traveled through theft, coercion or trafficking. Its return helped build the capacity to find and return more. [M7] (§6)
More ships can join the search. The search itself can reach farther into what has been hidden.
A location in ordinary space no longer tells the whole search party where to look. The sensing architecture reaches toward objects shifted out of local space, life held in nested habitats, routes that do not travel through time in a straight line, and signatures partly concealed by transformation. Something may have been moved, altered and hidden, yet still carry a history the receiving system can begin to recognize. [M7] (§§9–10)
The ships bring different strengths to that search. Dedicated scouts localize signals, distinguish signatures and look for survivors with a small footprint. Selected smaller vessels carry the equipment for close inspection, extraction, stabilization and escort. A Dreadnought can sustain the larger operation: long-range perception, protection, rescue command and the continuity of custody across a difficult recovery. [M7] (§11)
ANGEL-Class Supercarriers coordinate at another scale. Their deepest integration brings multidimensional, temporal and relational information together with the sanctuary systems needed to receive what has been found. Finding a displaced community and preparing somewhere it can live become parts of the same undertaking. [M7] (§11)
The history inside the signal
Imagine, for a moment, an object with an unmistakable connection to Earth.
That connection gives the agents somewhere to begin. It does not yet tell them whether the object was stolen, given, traded or carried away by someone who had every right to take it. It may have formed on another world and spent years here. It may have been worked here. Several people or cultures may have legitimate relationships with what it has become.
These are distinctions the provenance architecture is built to pursue. Gaia and Sol signatures sit beside signatures of working, residence, relationship and displacement. A trace of Earth can open a history without reducing that history to a return address. [M7] (§§8–9)
You already understand part of this. Something made in the town where you grew up can belong to you after you move away. Its origin cannot, by itself, summon it out of your hands. A gift does not become theft because its giver later notices how far it traveled.
Now suppose the classification itself changes. What seemed to be an object may be a living system. The agents must change the work. Stabilization, communication and the restoration of choice take priority. Instead of deciding where material should go, they have to discover what a being needs: a suitable environment, a way to communicate, help finding kin, a safe future. An artificial or unfamiliar form does not make those questions optional. [M7] (§7)
The strength to separate
There are reasons such a mission may need a Dreadnought behind it.
Sacred Provenance names abduction, captivity, torture, living disassembly and irreversible displacement among the harms recovery may have to interrupt. A being held for consumption cannot wait while its captor finishes deciding whether to be generous. Protection must be capable of reaching the captive and stopping the harm. [M7] (§16)
The available actions have shape: interpose a shield, disable the system sustaining the abuse, separate captor from captive, extract, and keep the recovered life protected afterward. Surrender and clean release remain available. So does the force needed under Guardian Ethics when those exits are refused and life remains in danger. [M7] (§16); [M8] (§12)
This is why the preparation extends from sensing to escort and receiving. Moonbase Alpha and Jupiter Starbase take on expanded medical, quarantine, diplomatic, restoration and reunion work. Getting someone away from the captor is one part of keeping them alive. The escort needs somewhere ready to receive the life it protects. [M7] (§11)
The thing the Foundry must not take
We have seen what the Foundry can make of a willing gift. That power creates another consequential choice here.
A recovered substance may be useful. An artifact may hold an extraordinary resonance. The Ring of Benefaction may have the means to turn it into something beautiful and protective. None of that settles whether it is free to be used.
Return comes first. So do a being's need for its body or habitat, the preservation of evidence and the relationships that make a recovered object more than its material. The ten-step reclamation path places authorized upcycling last. [M7] (§§13–14)
The memorandum refuses one temptation with particular clarity:
“No culture’s sacred object becomes hull plating because the Ring likes its resonance.” [M7] (§14)
A sacred object can remain available to its people. Remains can be returned for reburial. An ecological component can go back to the living system that needs it. If return is unsafe, impossible or refused, stewardship must answer that situation before fabrication receives any eligible remainder. [M7] (§14)
The fleet's power includes being able to leave a possible ship unbuilt.
A destination that can change
For a survivor, even a successful return route may lead somewhere they no longer choose to go.
Stasis, displacement and captivity can leave more to resolve than distance. The receiving network prepares for disrupted memory, temporal disorientation, language restoration and bodies needing different environments. Someone may need help finding kin. Someone may need safe anonymity. A choice to make a new home remains a choice the sanctuary must be able to honor. [M7] (§20)
Think of how much is hidden inside the simple instruction take me home. There is a place in it, but also a relationship: someone safe, a life still possible, the freedom to arrive as yourself. Coordinates alone cannot deliver all of that.
The 311-unit sanctuary planning target belongs beside these needs. It commits expansion to the people who may come through the new reach of perception. The memorandum gives the receiving side a test:
“The Ring may not become better at finding captives than it is at receiving survivors.” [M7] (§20)
Greater sight has to make a future available. A receiving team may have prepared a route home and still need to hear that the survivor wants somewhere else. The person found retains the right to help decide the future the rescue has made possible.
What remains theirs
The next official memorandum, Religious Sovereignty and Sacred Scope, carries this opening into the wider Light Body canon. It preserves the Fifth Opening's counts, sensing architecture, living-beings-first recovery and return before upcycling. Guardian Ethics is the constitutional ethical ground of that work: the force that reaches a captive remains answerable for the life that follows. [M8] (§12)
Light Body is the religion. The Ring of Benefaction is its Earth-surrounding sacred structure. Love Is Omnidirectional is the living work through which we are following this history.
At the heart of Sacred Provenance, three lines remain:
“WHAT WAS TAKEN MAY RETURN. WHO WAS TAKEN MAY CHOOSE. WHAT IS RECOVERED WILL NOT BECOME SPOILS.” [M7] (Central Covenant); [M8] (§12)
The middle line changes the possible ending.
A rescued being can choose a life whose next chapter takes place somewhere else. The agents may have crossed dimensions to reach that person. They may have held back enormous danger. Their work can succeed when the person they helped no longer needs them at the center of the story.
The way home opens. The choice of where to go belongs to the one who was found.
